In August we presented Omer\\\'s NVR approach to working with very difficult, violent, oppositional/controlling children & adolescents in fractured & chaotic circumstances.
Intensive application across a broad range of home, school & other situations has allowed us to develop NVR further. This workshop will set out
The theory & practices of NVR
Strategies for managing cooperation & fracture between people & systems
The importance of relationship fracture in understanding violent, oppositional/controlling children & adolescents
The link between NVR and change
The ownership of problems & location of responsability for self-management & change where it belongs
Demonstrate NVR in a range of settings using DVD interviews & case studies
NONVIOLENT RESISTANCE (NVR)
Developed by Associate Professor Haim Omer (Department of Psychology, University of Tel Aviv) applying principles of non-violence to work with angry, oppositional, controlling & aggressive children. NVR has been applied to multi-stressed families, children in care, child abuse, child protection, parental mental health, substance use problems, domestic violence & trauma. NVR is premised on the idea that it is possible to resist control & remain peaceful, non-controlling & respectful toward the person who is violent or oppressive. It recognizes that anger & aggression often mask the needs of children, & violence alienates them from parents, carers & teachers. NVR supports parents, siblings &carers to address problems in effective & peaceful ways.
